VIOLA SCHASTEEN
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Viola Kennedy Schasteen, 84, of Idaho Falls, died August 2, 2009, at her residence at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center.
She was born October 16, 1924, in Christchurch, New Zealand, to Frederick Joseph Kennedy and Violet Jacobs Kennedy. She grew up and attended schools in New Zealand.
She married John Leland Schasteen April 17, 1943, in Wellington, New Zealand. They came to the United States with their daughter, Diane, following World War II. They lived in Taft, Bakersfield, and Woodland, California, then moved to Yuma, Arizona. She was a homemaker and mother. John passed away December 13, 1973. She moved to Idaho Falls nine years ago.
She was raised a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting, bowling, crossword puzzles, and reading.

Daughter: Sonia (Vaughn) Vickery, Saranae, MI
Son: Mark Schasteen, Portland, OR
Daughter: Kathryn (Terry) Paris, Woodland, CA
Honorary Daughter: Donna Altamirano
She was blessed with 14 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, a brother, Maurice, and two sisters, Enid and Gwen.
Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at the Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Boulevard, Bakersfield, California.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98103, or the American Cancer Society, 2676 Vista Avenue, Boise, ID 83705.
