Agda Delores Victoria Danielson Goodman was born February 1, 1934, in Hitchcock, South Dakota, to Daniel Ephraim and Esther Agnes Victoria Ahlstrom Danielson. She had two older brothers, Raymond and Wendell, and two older sisters, Arlene and Lois. After completing high school in Hitchcock, she attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Victoria taught school for two years in Belle Fourche, SD, and two years in Sheridan, WY where she met Robert Goodman. They married July 19, 1958, then moved to Idaho Falls, ID with their two boys, Robert Jr. and Roger. Victoria lost her beloved Robert Sr. after only 12 years of marriage in 1970. Victoria passed away August 17, 2017, at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Victoria began teaching in Idaho Falls School District #91 when Edgemont Elementary first opened. In 1979, she moved to another newly built school, Westside Elementary. There she received a National Excellence in Education Award in 1988 and the year she retired, 1999, she received the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award, presented to her by Idaho Governor Andrus. As Victoria said, "I love teaching! I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I had chosen another career." After retirement she continued teaching as a Title I Tutor at Dora Erickson Elementary. No matter where Mrs. Goodman encountered her former students, she always knew their names and recalled some detail about her year with them. In the community, she spent 17 years as a hospital volunteer at Riverview Hospital. For many years she served as treasurer for First Lutheran Church before converting to Greek Orthodoxy and attending Holy Assumption Church in Pocatello. Victoria shared over 40 years with her companion, Jim Kontes. They loved to go to car shows, parks, and traveled all over the world together. Her love for Jim was truly special. She loved him dearly.
Victoria was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Esther Danielson; siblings, Wendell, Raymond, Arlene, and Lois; husband, Robert Sr. and son, Roger.
Victoria is survived by her longtime and treasured companion, Jim Contes of Firth, ID. She is also survived by; daughter-in- law, Susan Goodman of Blackfoot, ID; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Oevel, Jaymee (Justin) Kuhn, and Roger (Jennifer) Goodman Jr.; greatgrandchildren, Alexis, Brett, Isaac, and Cort.; great-niece, Heather Curtis and Davette (Ron) Whitehead; goddaughters, Nevila (Jordan) Lowe and Mary (Brent) Cline and grandgodchildren, Linda, Leo, Joachim, and Eno.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. August 24, 2017, at The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 518 N 5th Ave, Pocatello. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, Idaho Falls. Wednesday visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. at the church in Pocatello, followed by a Trisagion, and from 9-9:45 a.m. Thursday, also at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
