Victor Eugene Baldwin, 69, of Ammon, passed away March 1, 2017, at Morningstar Assisted Living Center.
Vic was born November 30, 1947 in Red Lodge, Montana, the oldest son of Victor Richard and Bonnie Jean Cozzens Baldwin.
His family moved back and forth between Red Lodge and Los Angeles, California, while his father was attending Jewelers School. They then moved to Anaconda, Montana. When Vic was in 4th grade, they moved to Deer Lodge, Montana, where his father worked for the Montana State Prison.
He attended 1st grade in California and completed his education in Montana, graduating from Powell County High School in 1969. Twelve days later he started his service as a missionary for the LDS Church in the East Central States Mission. After returning home, he avoided the draft by joining the US Navy. He completed Boot Camp in San Diego, CA and Engineman School in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was sent to Vietnam where he served on the USS Tom Green County LST 1159.
He moved to Idaho Falls in 1972 where he met his wife, Katherine Kaye Olsen. They were married on August 3, 1973, in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of 6 children; 5 sons and 1 daughter.
Vic was hired by the Idaho Falls Police Department in October 1973, and worked there until he retired in 2005. His main philosophy in life was helping people.
He served in many callings in the LDS Church, including Elder's Quorum & High Priests Quorum Presidencies & Stake High Council. He enjoyed scouting activities with his sons and served as Scout Committee Chairman, Advancement Chairman, Cub Scout Committee Chairman and many more. He is a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He also enjoyed target shooting with his children, helping Kathy in the garden, scouting, and he made his own plans for fix-up projects around the house.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Katherine Baldwin of Ammon; his sons: Richard Eugene (Sharon) from Centerville, UT, Hazen Kyle (Kathryne) from Ashton, ID, Christopher Hanham (Chantelle) from Rexburg, ID, Devin Olsen (Julie) from Cedar Hills, UT, Mahonri Benjamin (Cindy) from Hillsboro, OR; his daughter, Melissa Kaye Giles (Briant) from Palmyra, PA; 2 brothers: Kenneth Baldwin (Roseann) from Golden Valley, AZ and David Baldwin (Peggy) from Kent, WA; a sister: Lauren Stembridge (Jim) from Spanaway, WA; and 20 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: LeAnna Baldwin and Loreen Massey, and a grandson, Chaleb Christopher Baldwin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Ammon LDS 15th Ward Building, 1925 East 49th South. The family will visit with friends on Friday, March 3, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial and Military Rites will be in Ammon Cemetery.
