Vicky Haderlie Furness

Vicky Haderlie Furness, 83, of Sugar City, Idaho, passed away November 27, 2025 (Thanksgiving Day), at Highland Glen Assisted Living Facility in Highland, Utah, surrounded by family.

She was born on August 17, 1942, in Afton, Wyoming, to Conn and Elmina Jenkins Haderlie. Vicky was the third of eight children, with two older sisters and five younger brothers. She spent her early years in Freedom, Wyoming, before moving with her family to Logan, Utah, where she was raised and educated.

Vicky was introduced to music at a young age, and it quickly became a defining part of her life. She was a very accomplished pianist--studied under respected instructors, a gifted organist, and also played the saxophone. She participated in choirs throughout her youth and developed a talent and appreciation for the arts that would shape her future.

She graduated from Utah State University in 1964 with degrees in Music and Elementary Education. During her time at USU, her parents housed boarders, one of whom was Dewey Floyd Furness. Their friendship grew over shared meals and time together. They started courting and were eventually married on June 24, 1964, in the Logan Utah Temple.

As Dewey pursued a collegiate teaching career in mathematics, their family lived in Hawaii, Montana, and Minnesota, before settling in Sugar City, Idaho, in 1969. Vicky lived in Sugar City for 56 years and was proud to call it home. Earlier this year, due to declining health, she moved to Highland, Utah, to be closer to more family.

Vicky was the epitome of Christlike attributes, extending love and charity for all. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous callings throughout her life, including ward and stake presidencies of the Relief Society and Primary organizations. She also served for decades as a ward organist and choir accompanist, sharing her musical gifts wherever she lived. She and Dewey served together in the Idaho Falls and Rexburg Temples, as well as on a service mission in the Upper Snake River Valley.

Vicky taught piano lessons for more than 60 years, beginning as a teenager and continuing until the COVID-19 pandemic brought an end to her teaching. Hundreds of students from multiple states benefited from her instruction, and her influence can be seen in their homes, church congregations, and musical endeavors. Vicky was heavily involved in the Upper Valley Music Teacher's Association for years, serving as president or an officer for much of that time. Her students received high marks in music festivals and won competitions. Additionally, Vicky and Dewey assured music played a large role in their home and with their children.

Vicky had a beautiful smile and was elegant, refined, and cultured. She loved classical music, Broadway productions, and the arts. She created a home and life filled with beauty. Vicky worked tirelessly and was the consummate homemaker. She was a skilled seamstress and was known for her canning, cooking, large garden, and raspberry patch. Her homemade bread, rolls, and cookies were generously shared with family, neighbors, and friends. She also enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, and reading.

Relationships were paramount to Vicky. She maintained close ties with her extended family and friends, sent thoughtful cards and messages on special occasions, and took advantage of every opportunity to gather. Above all, she valued her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother, and dedicated her life to her family. Vicky leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, service, and music. Her influence will continue to be felt by all who were blessed to know her.

Vicky is survived by her children, Rozanne (Corey) Sellers of Orem, UT; Donna (Douglas) McBride of Sugar City, ID; Karalee (Kyle) Pettit of Highland, UT; Greg (Jennie) Furness of Dallas, TX; and Todd (Sara) Furness of Lehi, UT; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and siblings, Janis (Derral) Siggard of Hyde Park, UT; Vivian (Wayne) Blanchard of North Logan, UT; Lloyd (Sharyl) Haderlie of American Falls, ID; Max (Pat) Haderlie of Rigby, ID; Brian (Gaylene) Haderlie of Rexburg, ID; and Elwin (Cara) Haderlie of Brigham City, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dewey Furness; her parents, Conn and Elmina Haderlie; and her brother, Stanford Haderlie.
