Vi Sumner

Hazel Vionia “Vi” Sumner, 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 24, 2011, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls of natural causes. Vi was born December 16, 1933, in Plano, Idaho, to Charles and Edna Burrnett Burrell. She graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in 1951. She moved to Idaho Falls 46 years ago. She married Dennis Emery and they were later divorced. Vi married Fred Leslie Sumner in Pocatello, Idaho. He preceded her in death. A dedicated homemaker and mother, Vi also worked as a waitress at Hometown Kitchen in Idaho Falls for 18 years. Vi was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for 44 years, and the Elks Lodge. She loved to work and spend time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Vi loved camping and going on trips, and loved having company over and cooking for them. Vi is survived by three sons, George (Amy) Emery of Black Hawk, SD, Scott (Brenda) Emery of Idaho Falls, ID, and Curt (Jamie) Sumner of Idaho Falls, ID; a daughter, Cindy Emery Tocheri of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Beth Taylor of Salt Lake City, UT; four granddaughters, Teresa (Lanni) Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, ID, Melanie Emery of Conway, AR, Whitney Sumner of Idaho Falls, ID, and Celine Emery of Black Hawk, SD; three grandsons, Weston Barnes of Salt Lake City, UT, Sam Sumner of Idaho Falls, ID, and Kolten Emery of Black Hawk, SD; two great grandsons, Torey Swendsen of Idaho Falls, ID, and Austin Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, ID; and a great granddaughter, Tausha Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Leada Stratton, and a half brother, Bud Fife. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be next to her husband, Fred, in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
