Vet Rudean Woolf, 73, of Idaho Falls, ID, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 30th, 2011. He was surrounded by family and those he loved. He was a revered husband, father, and grandfather.
Vet was born on December 1, 1937 in Idaho Falls, ID, the eldest of two children of the late Rex Lott Woolf and Berniece Frandsen Woolf. He attended Ucon Elementary School, Bonneville High School, Ririe High School, American International College and Idaho State University.
At the age of 18 Vet became a medic for the United States Navy. Later, at 22, he worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, also as a medic, where he offered his services during the Cuban Missile Crisis at the Bay of Pigs. During his time at the C.I.A, he met his future wife, Patricia Murphy of Indian Orchard, MA. They married June 9, 1962. Their 49 year marriage was a shared journey of compassion, love, and golfing.
Vet lived in Ucon, Washington D.C., Springfield, MA, Rigby, and Idaho Falls. He spent many years working for Idaho Fresh Pak as the Manager of Quality Control and Research and was rarely seen without his Idahoan hat.
In addition to golf, Vet enjoyed prospecting, rock hounding, metal detecting, painting, traveling, camping, and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Vet is survived by his two children; SFC Vet Rudean Woolf Jr. of San Diego, CA and his wife Susan; and Stephanie Ann Woolf of Reno, NV; five grandchildren; Ian, Brittney, Madeline, Sophie, and John; his younger sister Alyce Sommerville of Idaho Falls, ID; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday, February 3, 2011, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, in Idaho Falls. Interment at a later date.
The family would like to personally thank Alliance Hospice and Dr. Christian Shull and his office staff for the excellent care they provided.
