On Saturday, July 21, 2018, Vero Stephen (Steve) Johnson, age 73, peacefully passed away at his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, brother and friend. Steve had a great sense of humor evidenced by his joking nature. He was a man among men - hero to his entire family. Steve was born September 6, 1944, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Vero Hans Johnson and Hazel Lucille Whitmill. Steve lost his dad at a young age in 1948; later his mother married Nesbert Burke who raised Steve as his own. Steve grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1962. Steve joined the United States Marine Corp immediately following high school and served as a communications specialist in the Vietnam War where he was awarded a good conduct metal and became a rifle expert. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Steve then served in the Army National Guard achieving the rank of First Sergeant; he retired from the Guard with over 25 years of service. On December 6, 1980, he married Juanita Seward-Nelson in Idaho Falls. Through this marriage, Steve added a son, Kevin Nelson, to combine with his two daughters, AdrieAnn and Tesra. They made their home in Idaho Falls where Steve worked as a metal fabricator at Thiokol/Logan Farm Equipment, after Logan Farm Equipment closed down he became a bus driver for School District 91. The last few years Steve and Juanita enjoyed driving cars for Hertz Rental. Steve enjoyed wood working, stained glass and building anything that improved or added character to their home or cabin. Steve's favorite thing to do was to take his wife Juanita dancing. His hobbies included fishing, traveling with his wife, playing a fierce hand of cards, hanging out with his grandchildren and spending time in Island Park at the cabin. Steve is survived by his loving wife Juanita; daughters, AdrieAnn Johnson, Tesra (Gary) Tiblow and a son Kevin Nelson all of Idaho Falls; sisters, Shawn (Larry) Tolpi of St. George, UT; Sherry Johnson of Sebring, FL; Louise (Bill) Howard of Dallas, TX, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren he adored. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rosalene (Rosie) Lewis of Idaho Falls. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.) in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
