Vernon Smith

VERNON C. SMITH IDAHO FALLS, ID - Vernon Charles Smith, 73, of Iona, died January 7, 2004, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born May 23, 1930, at St. Anthony, to Lorenzo Velmer Smith and Alta Williametta Rock Smith. The family later moved to Ucon where he grew up and attended schools. On August 15, 1950, he married Lila Marie Shelton in Ashton, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked as a truck driver as well as a bus driver. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of Elder. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gardening and especially spending time with his family. Surviving are: Wife: Lila Smith, Iona, ID Son: Darwin Ray (Janet) Smith, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Lorenzo Delbert “Ren” (Mary) Smith, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Trina Ann Pettingill, Idaho Falls, ID Brother: DeWaine Smith, Phoenix, AZ Brother: Elmer Thomas (“Petey”) Smith, Phoenix, AZ Brother: Darwin “Buzz” (Nancy) Smith, Grant's Pass, OR Sister: Helen Marie (Paul) Miller, Ririe, ID Sister: Sharon (LaMar) Ellis, Rexburg, ID Sister: Twila (Baltimore) Cruz, Burley, ID Sister: Denna Stoddard, Blackfoot, ID 8 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cora Smith and Linda Smith. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at the Iona LDS 5th Ward (Iona Road and Ririe Hwy), with Bishop Geoffrey Thomas officiating. The family will meet with friends on Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Wood East Side Chapel (963 S. Ammon) and Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Ucon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
