Vernon LaRoy Ritchie, 73, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 23, 2016, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Vern was born February 17, 1943, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Elbert Ritchie and Lila Mae Smout Ritchie. He grew up in Rigby, Idaho, and attended schools there. On September 18, 1963, he married Margaret "Marge" Shurtliff in Idaho Falls. To this union were born four children, Monty, Pamala, Todd, and Tony. Vern and Marge made their home in Idaho Falls, where Vern was a mechanic for 60 years. He had his own business and people came for miles to have their car worked on. He loved his job and took pride in his work. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Vern had a love of guns and enjoyed target shooting. He loved his family and enjoyed weekend camping trips with them. Vern is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marge Ritchie of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Monty (Suzette) Ritchie of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Pamala (David) Brown of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Todd (Liz) Ritchie of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Tony (Michelle) Ritchie of Bethesda, MD; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Ritchie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Darwin Palmer, First Counselor in the Idaho Falls LDS Kearney 2nd Ward, officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m., both times at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery.
