UCON, ID -- Vernon Dean Ricks, 74, of Ucon, passed away June 4, 2008, peacefully in his sleep at his home.
Vernon was born June 21, 1933, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Henry Hans Peter Ricks and Alice Elizabeth Dean Ricks. He grew up and attended schools in the and graduated from Madison High School. He continued his education at Ricks College, Idaho State University, and Utah State University. Vernon earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. While at Ricks College he played football and set a record in track.
He was drafted into the United States Army and served as a Private First Class during the Korean War.
On August 19, 1955, he married Phyllis Berniece Jensen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They settled in Ucon, where they raised their family of eight children. He worked as an accountant for Aerojet Nuclear and EG&G Idaho at the INL, and for H & R Block.
Vernon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings. He served as a Ucon City Councilman, Scoutmaster, and as a reading tutor at Ammon Elementary for Mr. Jones' 4th Grade class. Vernon enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Daughter: Karen (John) Braase, Idaho Falls
Daughter: Camille Ricks, Logan, UT
Son: Kent Ricks, Seattle, WA
23 Grandchildren & 3 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis, three brothers, Dean Ricks, Wayne Ricks, and Don Ricks, and three sisters, Lorna Ryset, Marjorie Rasmussen, and Linda Jenkins.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at the Ucon LDS Yellowstone Ward (10854 North 41 East) with Bishop Tim Orchard officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
