Verna Hill Peterson, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 6, 2011 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from natural causes. Verna was born August 15, 1924 in Rigby, Idaho to William Edgar Hill and Mary Ellen Lovell Hill. She grew up in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School. On September 30, 1943, she married Fay D. Peterson in the Logan LDS Temple. Verna worked as a mother and a homemaker. She and Fay raised seven children. Verna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including Relief Society President, a primary worker, and officiator at the Idaho Falls Temple. Verna enjoyed quilting, crocheting, genealogy, gardening, and canning. She loved flowers and was a wonderful cook. Survivors include her husband Fay Peterson of Ammon; daughters Julie (Steve) Stanger of Idaho Falls; Sharon(Terry) Rowley of Yakima, WA; Carol (Steve) Schuldt of Idaho Falls; Mary Lyn (Rohn)Newell of Idaho Falls, Tami Peterson of Idaho Falls; son, Clair Peterson of Nampa; brother, George Hill; sisters Reva Finn and Jesse Rolfe; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Arlo Hill; and her infant daughter, Janet Verna Peterson. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, with Bishop Jeff Jones of the Ammon LDS 21st Ward conducting. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Wood's prior to services. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery.
