William Vern Jorgensen, 78, of Ammon, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family and was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Vern was born October 7, 1933, in Price, Utah, to William Vernon Jorgensen and Anna Soderquist Jorgensen. He grew up in Utah and attended Ferron Elementary School and Orangeville Elementary School. He graduated from South Emery High School and then continued his education at Utah State University, the University of Utah, and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Weber State University. Vern served as a Private First Class in the United States Army between the Korean and Vietnam wars. On September 6, 1958, he married Billie Jean Lake in Castle Dale, Utah. Together they raised five children. On March 23, 1973, Vern and Billie Jean were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Utah until 1977, when they moved to Ammon and have enjoyed life spent there. Vern worked as a business manager at Peter-Kewitt Construction Company, an inspector at EG&G, and a construction engineer at Morrison Knudsen. In 1990, he was named Employee of the Year for M-K Ferguson of Idaho. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Vern provided 25 years of dedicated service to the scouting organization. He also served as a ward clerk and as a High Priest Group Leader. Vern enjoyed studying maps and taking scenic road trips, but especially loved working with wood. He was a perfectionist as far as his craftsmanship was concerned. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. He also loved being surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivor’s include: Wife: Billie Jean Jorgensen of Ammon, ID; Daughter: Leisa (Brett) Harper of Nampa, ID; Daughter: Brenda (Dale) James of Rigby, ID; Daughter: Kari (Sam) Cook of Rexburg, ID; Son: Justin (Chy) Jorgensen of Lehi, UT; 17 Grandchildren; and 4 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Vernon and Anna Jorgensen, and his son, William Shaun Jorgensen. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Ammon LDS 23rd Ward, 4030 John Adams Parkway, with Bishop Chad Murdock officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.

Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery.
