Vern Conlin

Biography

Our beloved husband, dad, ‘Pappa’ passed away after a short illness Monday, June 5, 2017, at his home (his little corner of heaven here on earth that he and Sharon created through the past 47 years) S.W. of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Vern was born January 17, 1935, in Arco, Idaho, and graduated from Butte High School in Arco in 1954. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954-1956 and was stationed in Hawaii. After he returned to Arco, he met the love of his life, Sharon Tipton, from Homedale, Idaho. They were married December 4, 1958, in Arco. Vern was a fireman at the INL Fire Department, retiring as Captain after 30 years. On his days off, he drove for local freight trucking companies for 30 years. He was an accomplished carpenter, electrician and all around handy man. His ‘retirement job’ from 1992 through 2016 was working for the Hertz Car Rental Co. (along with Sharon for several years) for Idaho Falls Manager, Jeff Palmer, and Jackson, Wyoming Manager, Ed McCullum, and later Jeremy Mayo, traveling with his wonderful crews, that soon became good friends, to destinations in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. He was honored with an award in March from (Overland West/Hertz Co. in Ogden, UT) for his 24 years of dedicated employment. As a young boy he loved riding horses all over the Lost River Valley. Years later, he enjoyed many camping and horseback riding trips with his family and friends. For over 30 years, Vern and Sharon helped friends every spring and fall with their three-day cattle drives to the hills east of Idaho Falls. Vern was a past member of the Idaho Army Reserves, life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2146, and a past member and Master of the Riverdale Grange.

Vern dearly loved and is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Deborah (Dave) Coffey of Aurora, CO, Tamara (Rick) Scheer of Twin Falls, ID, and Natalie (Randy) Miller of Winlock, WA; grandchildren, Scott (Megan Plaizier) Gutke of Idaho Falls, Chantal Carlyle (Louie Marx) of WA, Alysa Coffey (Ryan) Garde of AZ, Jordan Coffey of CO, Stacia Coffey of AZ, Justin Scheer, J’Lynn Scheer (Bo) Mendoza, and Jayden Scheer all of Twin Falls; great grandchildren, Dru, Audie, and Mayzlee Gutke of Idaho Falls, Keegan Husser and Aliyah Husser of WA, and Bo Jr. and Zeon Mendoza of Twin Falls; step grandchildren, Camy Carlyle (Brandon) Hertz and her children, Cody and Kayla Rish of Idaho Falls, Jennifer Miller and Josh Miller of WA; brothers, Leon of Arco, ID, Dale (Jeanie) of Filer, ID; sister, Darla Schiopen of OR; mother-in-law, Velma Tipton; brother and sisters-in-law, Grant (Donna Tipton) Eason of Nampa, Gene (Renee) Tipton of Old Town, ID, Terry (Jana) Tipton of Cascade, ID, Fran Wilson of Middleton, ID; several loving nieces and nephews from both his family and Sharon’s; and ‘family-like’ friend, Jeff Palmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rhea, brother, Darwin, step-grandson, Conan Carlyle, and brothers-in-law, Johnny Tipton and Bob Schiopen. A Private Family Celebration of Life for Vern will be held at the family home June 24, 2017. He will be dearly missed until we meet again with our Lord in heaven, and will forever be in our hearts.
