Verla Hokanson Crook, 91, of Iona, passed away February 18, 2024, at her home. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice and her loving family.
Verla was born October 30, 1932, in Afton, Wyoming, to Orlin William Hokanson and Eva May Jenkins Hokanson. She graduated from Star Valley High School and she attended Ricks College.
On November 20, 1953, she married James Peterson Crook in the Idaho Falls Temple. Verla and James made their home in Iona, Idaho.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary and Relief Society. She loved the gospel and had a strong testimony of the Savior and the Book of Mormon. She served as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple with her husband. They served a mission together in the Wellington, New Zealand Mission. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, reading, music, crocheting, and knitting. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She always had cookies in the cookie jar for them.
Verla is survived by her daughter, Leanna (Bill) Winder of Iona, ID; daughter, Terena Crook of Iona, ID; daughter, Merodene (Bruce) Case of Iona, ID; son, Jay R. (Bonnie) Crook of Centerville, UT; son, Scott (Janice) Crook of Bremerton, WA; daughter, Shereen (Brent) Dial of Shelley, ID; daughter, Colleen (Alan) Lambright of Mantua, UT; son, Nolin (Julie) Crook of Brigham City, UT; son, Val (Janet) Crook of Lyman, WY; son, James H. (Lori) Crook of Gilbert, AZ; daughter, Becky Crook of Iona, ID; daughter, Jan (Brian) Bartschi of West Haven, UT; brother, Gary Hokanson of Freedom, WY; sister, Nyla (Al) Merchant of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Van (Joyce) Hokanson of Afton, WY; 36 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, plus 3 announced; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Peterson Crook; parents, Orlin and Eva May Hokanson; grandson, Jacob Case; brother and sister-in-law, Dee and Ida Hokanson; sister, Evalin Hokanson; and sister-in-law, Carole Hokanson.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Iona 10th Ward, 5169 East Denning, with Bishop Beau Bunnell officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
