Verl J Andrew
VERL J ANDREWNovember 16, 1924 -- September 29, 2002
Verl Andrew died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife of 56 years, Dona, and his six children: Tina, Debra, Barbara, Holly, Richard, and Dana. He left this Earth after a short adventure with illness.
He was son of Joseph Gibby Andrew and Sarah Esther Ellis Andrew. He was the sixth of seven children; Marcella Winn Bowen, Fern Rumsey, Lawrence Andrew, Howard Andrew, Adelphia Triptow, and Elaine McGary.
He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and returned to marry his sweetheart, Dona June Wold, on September 10, 1947, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many ward and stake positions. He and his wife served a mission to Adam-Ondi-Ahman in Missouri.
Verl truly loved his lifelong association with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a scoutmaster for 24 years and Teton Peaks Council President for 10 years. He received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope Awards. Because of his devotion to the Scout program, the lodge at Treasure Mountain Scout Camp is named in his honor.
He was a part-owner with his brother, Howard, in Andrew Well Drilling Contractors. He served as president of the Idaho Water Well Association five times.
Verl and Dona enjoyed traveling and had visited most of the world together. He cherished his time with his family at their cabin on Hebgen Lake, Montana, and on their houseboat on Lake Powell. He often challenged his 18 grandchildren to water fights and was sneaky enough to win most of the time.
Verl is the father of Tina (Tim) Comeau of Park City, Utah; Debra (John) Poznanovich of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Barbara (Larry) Woolf of Boise, Idaho; Holly (Evan) Cook of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Richard (Tanya) Andrew of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Dana (Trent) Grandy of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Verl is larger than life to his family, his many friends and to thousands of boy scouts. Just like he told his scouts, "Follow me, boys." We will keep walking in his footsteps.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 28th Ward (1165 Azalea Drive) with Bishop Cleo Geddes officiating. The family will meet with friends at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue) on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
