VERDA CALL
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Verda Amelia Young Call, 84, of Idaho Falls, died March 15, 2004, at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 8, 1919, on the River View Ranch at Shelley, Idaho, to Angus Young and Esther Elizabeth Dutton Young. She was the fourth child of twelve children.
She attended schools in Shelley, Idaho, and at the age of 69, she obtained her GED High School Diploma. On April 13, 1940, she married Elton Davids Call in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on January 9, 1959.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She began working in the Church at a young age, teaching the children in the Primary. She served in various callings, including teaching children Sunday School, working with the young ladies in mutual, and served in the Relief Society Presidency. She was a visiting teacher for many years and loved visiting with her Sisters. She and her husband served a full-time mission to Gallup, New Mexico, in 1986-1987.
Her greatest calling in life was wife and mother.
She lived in Shelley and Idaho Falls and after her marriage she and her husband farmed in Grant, Idaho, until they moved to Idaho Falls in 1954. She was a wonderful homemaker and spent many hours preparing hot meals for her family and friends.
She loved poetry and wrote many beautiful poems and stories. Her happiest hours were spent singing, dancing, and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent many hours warming the benches at the baseball fields, cheering for her favorite baseball team and supporting her sons and husband.
She worked at Slusser Wholesale and then went to work at Mountain Bell, and served as their Matron. After many years of cooking and caring for the Operators she became a telephone operator herself, and retired from Mountain Bell in 1981. Elton passed away July 20, 2003.
Survivors include her children, Elton Lynn (Susan) Call and Margie (Willis) Mooney, both of Idaho Falls, Anne (Dave) Holtom of Clermont, FL, Randy B. (Linda) Call of Rock Springs, WY, and Carla (DeWayne) Dunn and Connie Ostler, both of Idaho Falls; four sisters, Lela McDonald, Sacramento, CA, Thelma utikofer, Coltman, Faye Chiles, Rigby, Marie Giese of Vancouver, WA, and one brother, Joseph Young of Idaho Falls. 26 Grandchildren, 51 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Davids Call, and one son, Jay D. Call; two granddaughters, one great great granddaughter, her parents, three brothers, Jim, Dow, and Ben; and three sisters, Zelda, Edith, and Alta.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Idaho Falls LDS 14th Ward (651 Gladstone), with Bishop Dave Holtom officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and Friday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Grant-Central Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
