Vera Ann Gallagher, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully January 21, 2026, at her home, with her husband of 71 years by her side. She was under the care of Aspen Hospice, and her loving family.
Vera was born January 6, 1937, in Saint Anthony, Idaho, to Layne Noel Rumsey and Claudia Miller Rumsey. She grew up and attended schools in Egin, Idaho, and Saint Anthony, Idaho.
On July 15, 1954, she married William "Bill" Jerry Gallagher in Saint Anthony, Idaho. Vera and Bill made their home in Idaho Falls. Vera was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Vera had a variety of jobs including, working as a realtor, waitress at the West Bank and Ramada Inn, laundry attendant at D&L Cleaners, and potato packaging at Frenches in Shelley. Although Vera didn’t have to work outside the home, she choose to work so her family could enjoy all the extra luxuries of life.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She sang with the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed reading, singing, acting, telling really good jokes, playing the piano, music, crocheting, knitting, sewing, painting, dancing the “jitterbug”, gardening, traveling, and taking long road trips with her family.
Vera is survived by her husband, Bill Gallagher of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Trenna Kuchenbecker of Ammon, ID; son, Gregory (Michiko) Gallagher of Poway, CA; brother, Hal Rumsey of Spokane, WA; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, William “Chris” Gallagher; great-grandson, Taylor Alan Richardson; son-in-law, John Kuchenbecker; brothers, Clayton and Phillip Rumsey; and her parents, Layne and Claudia Rumsey.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue in Idaho Falls. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
