Veloe (Murdock) Brasier

Veloe Murdock Brasier, 87, of Ucon, passed peacefully on January 11, 2025, in Idaho Falls, surrounded by her family.

Veloe was born February 18, 1937, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Russell Curtis Murdock and Bertha Barker Murdock. She grew up in Driggs, Idaho, where her family ran a farm. She worked very hard alongside her parents and siblings. She loved her life as a farm girl milking cows, haying, and being raised in a small community. She attended schools in Victor, Idaho, and graduated from Teton High School. Veloe cooked for the Double Diamond Dude Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for three summers with her best friend, Sue, from age 16-18 years old. After graduation, she attended Ricks College on a scholarship in music from her band experience in middle school and high school where she played drums. She earned her Associate Degree in Business from Ricks College.

In the Fall of 1959, while Veloe was working in Idaho Falls, a tall, shy, handsome sailor crawled in the back seat of her car at the A&W Drive-in. After a whirlwind romance, on December 28, 1959, she married John Edwin Brasier of Heuytown, Alabama, in Driggs, Idaho. Veloe and John lived in Wilmington, Delaware, while stationed in the Navy. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho, while John finished his Physics Degree. The highlight of living in Pocatello was being sealed as an eternal family on May 15, 1965. On November 11, 1967, they bought their first home in Ucon, Idaho, where they raised their five children: JoAnne, Don, David, Jana, and Doug. They hosted an exchange student from Brazil, Paulo Goncalves, for one year, and Kathi No Moccasin for three years, through the Indian Placement Program, from the South Dakota Sioux Nation. While raising her family, Veloe worked as a bus driver for School District 93 for 37 years.

Veloe's many talents included teaching piano, playing the organ, singing with the Chansonettes Women's Choir, organizing and running the Ucon Summer Baseball Program with her kids, gardening, taking care of her immaculate yard and flowers, cooking and baking bread and cinnamon rolls. When Veloe wasn't busy with all those things, you could find her skiing, camping, and fishing. However, her greatest joy in life was being a mother. There was nothing else that was more important and she served her family endlessly and without complaint.

Veloe loved to travel. She made it to all 50 states, Europe, Asia, and Mexico. She collected salt and pepper shakers from everywhere she visited. Her crowning glory was Hawaii, at the age of 80, to get her last set of shakers.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Relief Society, as the church organist, and in the Young Women's. She loved working in the Young Women's because she got to attend camp in Darby at the base of the Tetons where she grew up. Veloe had an unwavering testimony of her Savior her whole life and taught her family the importance of the gospel and how to love and forgive.

Veloe is survived by her husband, John Brasier of Ucon, ID; daughter, JoAnne (Mark) Haws of Rexburg, ID; son, Don (Kelley) Brasier of Denver, NC; son, David (Sheri) Brasier of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Jana Brasier of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Doug (Diane) Brasier of Rigby, ID; sister-in-law, Gay Murdock of Driggs, ID; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Bertha Murdock; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Mickey Murdock; brother, Randy Murdock; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Larry Tea; brother, Tommy Murdock; parents-in-law, Lewis and Arabella Brasier; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Best; daughter-in-law, Kelley Brasier; and nephew, Joe Best.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Ucon Monument Ward, 10854 North 41 East, with Bishop Jeff Thurman officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 11-11:40 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special, heartfelt, thank you to the kind and loving staff of the Gables of Idaho Falls and to Hospice of Eastern Idaho, especially her sweet nurse, Missy.
