Velma Olsen, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 27, 2013, at The Gables of Ammon Assisted Living Center. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Velma was born June 25, 1918, in Logan, Utah, to Moses Dunkley Watterson and Lucy Biggs Watterson. She grew up and attended schools in Logan, and lived in Garfield, Utah, for ten years. She has lived in Ammon, Idaho, since 1945.
On June 18, 1936, Velma married Dean Nyman Olsen at the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Temple. To this union were born four children, VelDean, Heber, Robert, and Janet. Velma and Dean made their home in Ammon, where Velma worked as a salesperson for Avon, Tupperware, and Artex Paints. Dean passed away December 3, 1991, in Ammon.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a square dancer for thirty-two years. She also enjoyed crochet, playing cards, reunions and family gatherings.
Velma is survived by
Son, Robert "Bob" (Deb) Olsen of Ammon, ID;
Daughter, VelDean (Jerry) Summers of Idaho Falls, ID;
Daughter-in-law, Pat Olsen of Snohomish, WA;
Son-in-law, Raymond Cox of Abilene, TX;
Sister-in-law, Jeanne Watterson of Magna, UT;
14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 7 great great granchildren, and a 3rd great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter, Janet Cox, son, Heber Olsen, two grandsons, two great granddaughters, three brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Ryan Coles of the Ammon LDS 1st Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at Wood East side. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
