IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Velma Ophelia Brown John, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 6, 2009, at her home. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
She was born May 25, 1923, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ben Brown and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Jahn Brown. She grew up and attended schools in Roberts.
On February 20, 1941, she married Aaron Merl John in Idaho Falls. She was a mother and homemaker. She also worked as a potato sorter, meat wrapper, and a clerk at Bonanza 88. She also provided many hours of daycare for her great grandchildren.
Velma was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and ceramics.
Survivors include:
Daughter: Marlene (Ed) Ledvina, Roberts, ID
Brother: Lionel (Erma) Brown, Idaho Falls, ID
3 Grandchildren: Bill (Raela) Ledvina, Roberts, ID,
Paul (Bobbie) Ledvina, Olathe, CO, and
Lorrie (Todd) Mendel, Idaho Falls, ID
13 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and five brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, with Pastor Phil Meyer of Faith Lutheran Church in Pocatello officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday for one hour prior to the services, both at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Marlene, I just loved your Mom, she was such a great lady. I remember how much fun we had when we were in school & I bugged your folks every week-end. My prayers are with you & your family. .I can't handle funerals, so know I'm thinking of you.
