VELMA L. EMERY IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Velma Leona Emery, 84, of Idaho Falls, died May 17, 2003, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was born October 27, 1918 at Bountiful, Utah to Albert J. “Dusty” Rhoades and Ella Labrum Rhoades. The family moved to Idaho Falls where she attended Riverside Elementary, O. E. Bell Junior High, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. On August 10, 1940, she married Boyd James Emery in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 10, 1960. They lived in Oakley, Idaho and Eureka, California before moving back to Idaho Falls. For many years, they spent their winters in Phoenix, Arizona. She has worked at Highland Greenhouses; R. T. French, Co; Post Register; and Humbolt Standard Newspaper. She has been active in PTAs, served as a den mother in Cub Scouts, and held membership in various social clubs. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in both the Relief Society and Primary organizations. She enjoyed flower arranging, camping and outdoor activities, and traveling. Velma was also an avid birdwatcher and an excellent cook. Surviving are: Husband: Boyd Emery, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Dennis (Shelley) Emery, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Jim (Janaye) Emery, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Bob (Cathy) Emery, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Annette (Randall) Bargelt, Idaho Falls, ID Son: John (Nola) Emery, Pleasant Grove, UT Sister: Juanita Cummins, Phoenix, AZ Sister: Clarice Knudsen, Sandy, UT Sister: Beth Dick, Idaho Falls, ID 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Rhoades and a sister, Ellen Carlson. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge), with Bishop Nathan Smith of the Idaho Falls 3rd Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday for one hour prior to the services, both at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge).
