Velma Blanch Chandler, 90, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away January 29, 2018, at Fairwinds-Sand Creek Retirement Community.
Velma was born August 6, 1927, in Archer, Idaho, to Lester Luke Briggs and Mary Lilly Bailiff Briggs. She grew up and attended schools in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School.
On November 15, 1946, she married Lloyd Emil Chandler in Rexburg, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on July 30, 1950. To this union were born three children, Garth, Tarena and Debbie. Velma and Lloyd made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Velma worked as city clerk for the city of Idaho Falls. Lloyd passed away on March 11, 2007.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities. Velma enjoyed singing, quilting, acting and catering. She loved spending time with her family in the outdoors and at their Island Park Cabin.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Tarena McDougal of Riverton, UT; daughter, Debbie (Gene) Taylor of Pocatello, ID; son, Garth K. (Stephanie) Chandler of McLean, VA; sister, Zella Perrenoud of West Jordan, UT; brother, Ernie (Junene) Briggs of Mesa, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and five siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Idaho Falls LDS Kearney 3rd Ward, 1860 Kearney, with Bishop Daniel Klassen officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and from 12:00-12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
