A member of America’s Greatest Generation, Vaughn Green Peterson, 95, passed away on July 28, 2015, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community. He was under the care of Hearts for Hospice.
He was born in Menan, Idaho, on February 8, 1920, to Floett Green Peterson and Carl Richard Peterson. When he was a young boy, his family moved to Rexburg where he attended school.
He attended Ricks College and the University of Idaho, where he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. Vaughn's career took him to Guam, Morocco, West Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam, as well as Alaska and Hawaii. His family enjoyed hearing him tell of the many adventures he experienced during those years.
Vaughn served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant JG during World War II. He remained active in civic events during his lifetime, and wrote many letters to congressmen and newspaper editors.
In 1966 he met a lovely lady, Henrietta Ione West, and she stole his heart. They were married on December 29, 1966, in Hawaii, and enjoyed 42 wonderful years together. They loved to travel, camp, fish and hunt. Vaughn had his pilot's license and flew small aircraft when they married and it wasn't long before Henrietta took up that hobby also. They enjoyed flying to the various Hawaiian Islands where they would golf. Henrietta passed away March 12, 2009.
His marriage to Henrietta gave him a ready-made family who quickly adopted him as their own. This family has grown to include 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Vaughn is survived by his
daughter, Jackie Holm of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Debra Williams of Honolulu, HI;
7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son Steven Davis, parents, three sisters, and one brother.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery in Jefferson County. Military Rites will be performed by the Jefferson County Veterans Memorial Team.
