VARD HARRIS IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Vard Guy Harris, 90, of Idaho Falls, died December 31, 2007, at Good Samaritan Society, Idaho Falls Village. He was under the care of Aspen Hospice. He was born August 29, 1917, at Lago, Idaho, to Guy Harris and Vara Hubbard Harris. He attended Lago Elementary and Central High School. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States Mission. He married Leota Matkin on July 3, 1940 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Lago where he worked as a farmer and carpenter and raised five children. Leota preceded him in death on May 16, 1999. He was the Building Superintendent for the Treasure Mountain Lodge from 1983 to 1986. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions, including Bishop of the Lago Ward from 1950 to 1956. He also served as a temple worker in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He enjoyed carpentry and serving as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include: Son: George Vard (Diana) Harris, Soda Springs, ID Daughter: Julia A. (Erv) Southwick, Ammon, ID Daughter: Jill M. (Bill) Ellibee, Aberdeen, MD Son: Art M. (Joni) Harris, Wamsutter, WY Brother: McGee Harris, Soda Springs, ID Brother: Robert Harris, Lago, ID 22 Grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, wife, two sons, Eldred M. Harris and Jack Matkin Harris, one grandson, and one great grandson. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, January 4, 2008, at the Williams LDS Ward, Niter, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Thursday, January 3, 2008, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 963 South Ammon Road and Friday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Lago Cemetery. ------------------------------------
