Valeta Simpson

Valeta L. Simpson - 04/14/2003 Valeta L. Simpson - 04/14/2003 VALETA SIMPSON IDAHO FALLS, ID - Valeta Lavelle Gosselin Simpson, 84, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2003, in Idaho Falls, ID. She was born June 7, 1918, an identical twin, in the home of her loving parents, Leander Raymond Gosselin and Zelma Arminta Gustin Gosselin in Twin Falls, Idaho. She and her twin sister looked so much alike that their mother put different colored ribbons on their clothes to tell them apart. Their resemblance to each other was still very evident when they were in their seventies. Valeta attended school in Buhl and Twin Falls, Idaho and in Eugene, Oregon. She graduated from High School with high honors when she was only 15 years old. At the age of 16, she and her twin sister entered nurses training at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. After returning to her parent's home in Buhl to recover from an illness, she completed nurses training at the Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon, where she graduated with honors. Valeta was an operating room supervisor in the Emanuel Hospital for 3 years and then became operating room supervisor of the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. In May, 1950, she was named Director of Nursing Service and Nursing Education. Valeta married Greenland Cadman Simpson, the hospital business manager, on March 17, 1951. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 31, 1963. After a son, Greenland Gary Simpson, was born, Valeta no longer worked at the hospital, but devoted many volunteer hours to home nursing care and the LDS Social Services Agency. She assisted with the Indian student placement program, the unwed mother program, with adoptive applications, with foster studies, and by teaching prenatal classes. She received a special award for her sixteen years as a volunteer. Valeta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. The greatest joy in her very busy life was always her family. She had an incredible ability to say and do just the right thing at the right time to help her son and three grandsons. She spent many hours helping and loving her grandsons. She could always be found on the sidelines cheering their sports endeavors or in the audience listening to their concerts. Valeta was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving in many callings, including Relief Society President, Young Women's President, Den Mother, Sunday School teacher, and in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Visitors Center. She devoted countless hours in genealogy research, which she shared with other family members. She received a letter of gratitude from the LDS Church Genealogy Department for months of extensive research in updating the records of the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. Valeta is survived by her husband, Greenland Simpson, their son, Gary (Annette) Simpson, three grandchildren, Michael, Kevin and Nathan Simpson, and her twin sister, Vella Orme, of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Wayne Gosselin and Ival Goslin, and sister, Ardis Black.. A private memorial service is planned for a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. This message is for Greenland and Gary, as for old neighbors and friends, our condolences and love go out to you and your family at this time. We are saddened at the loss of Valeta, who was a wonderful friend and neighbor. She will surely be missed by all. God bless you all.
