Val Morgan

LaVelle Edward “Val” Morgan, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 5, 2014, at his home. He was under the care of his family and OneSource Hospice. Val was born December 15, 1920, in Labelle, Idaho, to Vernal Edward Morgan and Jennie Aletha Heyrend Morgan. He grew up and attended schools in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School. His favorite sport was boxing. On October 21, 1941, he married Marvelle Ball in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He served in World War II in the Pacific with the United States Infantry in 1944. After Japan surrendered in 1945, Val was promoted to Sergeant. As Sergeant he was over numerous military and civilian personnel who oversaw shipments of medical supplies. In April, 1946, he was honorably discharged and returned to Idaho Falls to his wife, Marvelle, and four -year-old daughter, Kay Larue. Val was employed as a driver for the Yellow Cab Company in Idaho Falls until he was hired as a driver for the Idaho Falls Fire Department in 1951. He served for 27 years as driver engineer, responsible for driving his engine and crew to the scene of a fire. He retired in 1978. Val is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Marvelle Morgan of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Kay Larue (Roger) Whitmill of Spencer, ID, son, Brad (Debra) Morgan of Idaho Falls, ID, 5 grandchildren, Lisa (Greg) Miller, Mitch Whitmill, Brett (Cindy) Whitmill, Brando Morgan, and Shane Morgan, 14 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, Vernal and Aletha Morgan, two brothers, Darsel Morgan and Mertis Morgan, and a granddaughter-in-law, Jackie. The family would like to thank OneSource Hospice for their loving care of our father, especially, Megan, Josh, Dani, and Callie. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the Ammon Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
