Val Jardine

Biography

Val D Jardine, 79, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away September 30, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society of Idaho Falls Village after a long and courageous battle with an extended illness. Val was born June 4, 1932, in Idaho Falls, to William F. “Bill” Jardine and Zelda Agnes Lords Jardine. He was raised in Grant and attended schools in Rigby, graduating from Rigby High School. Val proudly served his country in the United States Army, and was stationed in Puerto Rico. He was honorably discharged March 19, 1957. On January 7, 1953, he married his best friend and love of his life, Edith Kathleen “Kathy” Madsen in Rigby. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on January 2, 1957. Val and Kathy were blessed with a precious daughter, whom they cherished until her untimely death in 1990. This was indeed one of the hardest of all trials for them to endure. Val was never a stranger ro hard work. In their early married years, Val worked in Rigby. They later moved to Idaho Falls, where he worked for Broadway Ford for over 30 years as one of their top salesmen. He considered his customers his friends. He always went the extra mile to serve them and many became return buyers. Val loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed. Val was a member of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse for several years. He loved owning and caring for fine horses. Val and Kathy enjoyed spending time with great friends at their cabin in Island Park, snowmobiling and being outdoors. His very favorite times were spent with Kathy when they were both retired and together 24/7. Val is survived by his only brother, Tharon (Nanci) Jardine of Idaho Falls, who went above and beyond to serve and care for him, attending to his every need. He is also survived by his “adopted” daughter GayLynn (Randy) Rolfe of Rigby, whom he fondly called his “number two,” as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathy, daughter Valeen, and his loyal dog, Bo. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday October 5, 2011 at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.), with Bishop Doug Hilman of the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening and 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations at Wood’s. Burial will be in Grant-Central Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
