Vada Lee Michaelis Frisby, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 17, 2010, at Lincoln Court from causes related to age.
Vada was born July 4, 1925, in Garland, Utah, to Alfred Arthur Michaelis and Ida Mabel Cannon Michaelis. She was excited about being born on the 4th of July because every birthday they held a parade and shot off fireworks. Vada spent her childhood in Garland, Utah. She attended Bear River High School in Tremonton, Utah.
Vada married her lifelong love, Don Carlos Frisby, on October 1, 1941, at Reno, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple in March, 1946. At the time of their marriage Don was on active duty with the National Guard and deployed to San Louis Obispo, California. Soon after the declaration of war Don left for the South Pacific and they were separated for the duration of World War II. Upon his return, Don became a plumber and moved the family to Idaho Falls, where they raised their six children. Vada was a wonderful mother, homemaker, and neighbor. Wherever she lived she made good friends of her neighbors and they all knew her as a kind and generous woman. She did bookkeeping for several businesses in Idaho Falls, including Don Pieper's Service Stations and Scenic Falls Federal Credit Union.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Vada held many callings in the Relief Society, Primary, and Youth organizations. She was also an original member of the Friends Forever Club, a women's club spanning more than 60 years. Vada and Don also served a mission among the Cambodian refugees in Oakland, California, where they grew to love and appreciate the people and their culture.
Don died October 1, 1991, on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. She married James E. Thomas February 28, 1997, and he passed away November 25, 2000.
Vada's greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Julie Ann (Eric) Dean of Idaho Falls, Dixie (John) Larson of Lewiston, ID, Dona Kae (Mitch) Porter of Idaho Falls, Richard Don (Debbie) Frisby of Meridian, Idaho, Kevin Carlos (Rebecca) Frisby of Buckley, Washington, and David Michaelis (Karen) Frisby of Idaho Falls, 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and her brother, Robert (Sandra) Michaelis of Tremonton, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dale Michaelis, three sisters, Faye Barton, Pauline Jensen, and Mabel Bishop, and a grandson, Cory Everett Porter.
