Uvon was born at Bone on September 13, 1922 to Ralph Francis Butler and Carrie Lenore Beckley, the tenth of fifteen children. She attended public schools and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1944. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Her favorite memories included: roaming the hills with her siblings on the family homestead at Bone, working at Snowball’s Sport Shop, and dancing to the sounds of the big bands. Her hero was her mother who passed in 1943, leaving Uvon the oldest child at home to play mother to five younger siblings. She loved flowers and music. She had a beautiful singing voice and she loved to dance. In 1945 she met Ken McCowin who was recently home from WWII. They got engaged at Riverside Gardens dancing to the sounds of Louis Armstrong’s band. Ken and Uvon married on January 26, 1947 in Idaho Falls and celebrated 62 years together. Three daughters were born to this marriage. Ken preceded her in death in 2009. In 1968 Uvon fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a nurse, graduating from the Sacred Heart Hospital Nursing Academy. She worked at the hospital for several years then spent the rest of her career at the Medical Center for Women and Children. She was a member of the BPO Does Lodge 1087. Uvon and Ken enjoyed many evenings dancing at the lodge in Idaho Falls with friends and family. After retirement in 1985, her greatest joy was spending time with her family at the cabin in Palisades, especially with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Uvon had a great sense of humor. She loved hummingbirds, babies, Elvis Presley and the Utah Jazz. She loved watching her grandsons play sports, especially baseball. She never missed a baseball game in which her grandsons played. Uvon was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, Dora, Ethel, Lavella, Georgia, Eva and Grace; three brothers Buck, Woodrow and Alva, her daughter, Kerry Lee McCowin, and her cat, Elvis. Two daughters Shannon Bowman and Stacy (Gary) Pullen, of Idaho Falls survive her, along with three grandchildren: Brooke (Ben) Heeding of Idaho Falls, Brandon Pullen of San Diego, CA and Brian Pullen, Tampa, FL; and three great-grandchildren: McKenzee Pullen, Chanse Jackson and Kenyen Uvon Heeding. She is also survived by two brothers, Ralph (Geneva) Butler and Floyd Butler; and three sisters, Lenore Gardner and Doris Remsburg of Idaho Falls, and Lillian Morgan of American Falls.
