Richard Thomas Watkins passed away January 30, 2018. He was born May 21,1942 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wold and Hope Celeste Hansen Watkins. He is survived by his loving brothers, George Jr and Dane Watkins and their children, George III, Sandra, Mike, Susan, Tory, Tracey, Dane Jr., Damond, Taryn, David, & Tiffany.
Everyone who knew Tom loved him and understood he was special and had many friends. His demeanor and smile would light up any room. He enjoyed serving those he loved with his mother by delivering bread from Babe's Bakery each week. He brought a lot of joy to the family with his quiet example of faith and love. He loved music, especially Andy Williams and Lawrence Welk. He loved watching the Golden Girls on TV and driving through Artic Circle to order a Lime Ricky.
He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1961, and enjoyed going to the class reunions. After graduating from high school, he worked with his father and brothers at the Snake River Equipment Company, a full-line International Harvester Dealer.
His passion for driving trucks and cars both in work and pleasure was well known. Over the course of his life he drove over a million miles in his 1953 Plymouth, Chevrolet Corvair, Pontiac GTOs, Ford Tourneo, Mercury Sable. His favorite was his 1993 Cadillac Sedan Deville. He put over 350,000 miles and traveled the valley every day from Pocatello to Ashton. He picked up new over the road 10-wheeler trucks which were sold to customers at Snake River Equipment Company from Springfield Ohio to Fort Wayne Indiana, Phoenix Arizona, and Los Angeles California.
He enjoyed traveling to the family cabin at Hebgen Lake, Montana, on the weekends and chauffeured his parents for many business meetings in Utah and Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery in the plot next to his parents.
The family would like to thank Teton Post Acute Care & Rehabilitation Center and the Rexburg Care Center nurses, especially DR. Craig Southwick for their care and treatment of Tom. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone!
