Tom Cox

John Thomas Cox, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 5, 2023, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and One Source Hospice.

Tom was born April 18, 1947, in El Centro, California, to John Schafer and Thelma Elizabeth Cullum Cox. He was raised by Daniel Emitt Cox and Thelma Cox. He grew up and attended schools in San Diego, California, and graduated from Morris High School in 1966.

On September 21, 1974, he married Christine (Tina) Marie Vorhauer Cox in the Los Angeles, California Temple. Tom and Tina made their home in Escondido, California where Tom worked as a electro mechanical engineer for Fluid Components, Inc.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served a West Central States Mission from 1966-1968. He enjoyed fishing, raising tropical fish, pigeon racing, beekeeping, raising rabbits, and square dancing.

Tom is survived by his loving wife; son, Michael (April) Cox of UT; daughter, Sherry (Eric) Turner of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Shauna (Jason) Knobloch of Hot Springs, AR; daughter, Julie (Dan) Hayes of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Daniel (Melanie) Cox of UT; sister, Donna (Richard) Dixon of St. George, UT; brother, Timothy Cox of GA; 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary Cox and Michael Schafer; and granddaughter, Cali Hayes.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023, at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Blackfoot, 2651 Cromwell Lane, with Brother Roger Harshbarger officiating. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Idaho Falls 21st Ward, 1155 1st Street.
