Thomas “Tom” Powell Wilcox, Jr., 79, passed away October 15, 2013, at the Autumn Leaves Assisted Living Center in Missouri City, Texas.
Tom was born April 18, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, to Thomas Powell Wilcox, Sr. and Ruth Emily Pelton Wilcox. He grew up and attended elementary and high schools in the Detroit area. Tom attended the University of Michigan and then the University of California at Berkeley, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Nuclear Physics.
On August 25, 1964, he married Margaret Croft in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born two children, Thomas Powell III and Venna Ruth. Tom and Margaret made their home in Livermore, California for five years; Benicia, California for 15 years, and Idaho Falls, Idaho for 22 years. He and Margaret moved to Missouri City, Texas, in December 2012 to be closer to their family.
Tom was a Nuclear Physicist and worked for Lawrence Livermore LLC. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Tom served as a Bishop and temple worker. He liked to work with his hands and was an avid sailor. He enjoyed traveling and learning, and was very involved in genealogy work.
Tom is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of nearly 50 years; daughter, Ruth Jeffery, and son- in-law, R. Dale Jeffery, of Missouri City, Texas; daughter-in-law, Crisandra Hamilton, and her husband, Michael Hamilton, of Friendswood, Texas. Also:
Cassandra Wilcox, granddaughter, of Houston, Texas;
Ryan Jestin Wilcox, grandson, of Friendswood, Texas;
Logan Davis Jeffery, grandson, of Missouri City, Texas; and
Spencer Thomas Jeffery, grandson, of Missouri City, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Thomas Powell Wilcox III.
The family will visit with friends on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home in Ammon, Idaho.
Graveside Funeral Service will be held at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bishop Wesley Frey of the Idaho Falls LDS Lincoln 3rd Ward. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
