Thomas J Ritchie, 79, of Iona, Idaho, passed away June 29, 2015, at his home.
Tom was born August 5, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Jabez “Dean” Ritchie and Blanche Ann Johnson Ritchie. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and Iona and graduated from Bonneville High School.
On April 12, 1957, he married Doris Gneiting in Coltman, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 24, 1965. To this union were born six living children, Bradley, Lori, Dena, Scott, Sharon, Stephanie, and one unnamed stillborn daughter. Tom and Doris made their home in Iona, where Tom considered himself a lumberman, working at Valley Builders in Rigby, and then with his brothers at Carpenter’s Building Supply. He also worked as a custodian at Tiebreaker Elementary for 12 years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an active member of his High Priest Group. He spent the last year and a half working with the Special Needs Adults Program (SNAP). He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, building things, telling stories, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

loving wife of 58 years, Doris Ritchie of Iona, ID;
son, Bradley Thomas (Marie) Ritchie of Iona, ID;
daughter, Lori Kay (Daniel) Jarmin of Blackfoot, ID;
daughter, Dena Marie (Kim) Sprague of Pleasant Grove, UT;
son, Scott Emery (Robyn) Ritchie of Rigby, ID;
daughter, Sharon Lyn (Maurice) Van Zutphen of Taylorsville, UT;
daughter, Stephanie Jo (Patrick) Andrus of Ucon, ID;
brother, Marvin Charles “Chick” (Gloria) Heileson of Iona, ID;
sister, Jackie Stegner of Charlotte, NC;
sister, Emma Ann (Mike) Ashton of Ammon, ID;
25 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Blanche Ritchie; brother, Jabez Dean “JD” Ritchie; and sister, Luana Smith.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015, at the Iona LDS Stake Center, 7555 North 55th East (corner of Ririe Highway and 55th East), with Bishop Hal Schofield of the Iona LDS 2nd Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Friday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery.
