TOM HARRIS IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Thomas Richard Ernest Harris, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 21, 2010, at his home. He was born April 24, 1917, in Edinborough, Scotland, to Thomas Harries and Edith Minnie Cornish Harries. He attended Pembrokeshire Grammar School in Wales, then moved to Salt Lake City where he graduated from East High School. He continued his education by attending Bennett College in Sheffield, England and received his Associate Degree. Tom was in the British Navy for 12 years and served during World War II as a Warrant Officer. On February 22, 1941, he married Jean Reynolds in Grimsby, England. In 1947, Tom and Jean with their daughter, Sandra, moved to the United States to start over. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 22, 1947. He was a hospital administrator in Burley, Idaho; Rupert, Idaho; at the Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City and then at LDS (Riverview) Hospital in Idaho Falls. Tom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions including Branch President, Bishop, Bishopric Counselor, and High Councilor. He also served with his wife as a missionary in the Ireland Dublin Mission. For 22 years, Tom and Jean spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona, where Tom was the Gospel Doctrine Teacher in the Yuma 6th Branch. Tom enjoyed photography, poetry, boating, teaching, was a private pilot and accomplished organist and pianist. Survivors are: Wife: Jean Harris, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Dr. Jay Martin (Trudy)Harris, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Thomas Reynolds (Cindy) Harris, Fallbrook, CA 8 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Jean Harris. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Idaho Falls LDS 31st Ward, 1165 Azalea Drive, with Bishop Richard Stewart officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. The reunion he is having now is the reward for our time on earth.
