TEE ANDREW
MENAN, ID -- Thelma “Tee” Lillian Andrew of Menan, Idaho, passed away at her home on October 20, 2009. She was under the care of her dear husband, and Hospice Alliance.
She was born May 27, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Allegheny County, in the suburb of Crafton. She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Downing and Alice Margaret Gardies Downing. She grew up there, attending Crafton High School, where she graduated in May of 1959. She moved west in 1963 when she attended Brigham Young University.
She was married to DeWayne Ralph “Dee” Andrew by Elder LeGrand Richards, an apostle of the LDS Church, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 11, 1966. They lived in Moses Lake, Washington, Pocatello, Idaho, Pleasant Grove, Utah, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and then spent 36 years in the home they built in Menan, Idaho, where they raised their family.
She was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent many years speaking and sharing her conversion story. She was awarded the Elect Lady Award by the LDS Institute of Learning at Idaho State University in 1977. She considered this an undeserving, but great honor. She enjoyed painting and taught art throughout her life. She taught at Ricks College through the Continuing Education Program. She was a volunteer art instructor at the Youth Services Center in St. Anthony, Idaho. She owned and operated an Art store in Rexburg, Idaho, and taught from her home studio in Menan, Idaho. Tee also taught Organizational skills and Self Esteem workshops at Idaho Falls High School through their Community Education Program for several years.
In the latter days of her life Tee found a love for quilting and spent many hours, before passing, designing and making quilts as gifts.
She is survived by Dee Andrew, her husband of 43 years, three sons, two daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren: Scott, Kristin, Mitchell and Tayler K. Andrew of Mesa, Arizona; Jeff Andrew of Moscow, Idaho; Mark, Danielle, Chase, Faith, and Hope Andrew of Menan, Idaho. Tee is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Yolanda Downing of Salt Lake City, Utah; and her sister, Loretta Costa of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
The family will visit with friends at the Menan LDS Stake Center on Friday, October 23, 2009, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Tee would prefer donations be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund and / or the LDS Church Welfare Fund, 15 East South Temple, 2nd Floor East, Salt Lake City, UT 84150, or online at www.ldsphilanthropies.org. Condolences may be sent to her family at 689 North 3600 East, Menan, ID 83434.
