Ted Baker

Ted Baker, 86, of Sun City West, Arizona, formerly of Swan Valley and Idaho Falls passed away October 21, 2010 in Sun City West, Arizona. He was born June 24, 1924 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to William Simmons Baker and Laura Lucille Daniels Baker. He grew up in the Swan Valley area and attended school there and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He continued his education at the University of Idaho where he was in the ATO Fraternity. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After serving in the war, he married Sybil Livingston and they had two daughters, Teddie and Debbie. They were later divorced. Ted was instrumental in the development of Pine Basin Ski Hill. He worked as an operator and ski school instructor for many years at Pine Basin. Ted enjoyed working on the family farm in Swan Valley for several years and began his teaching career in Irwin, Idaho. He was much loved by his students there and was invited to the first “DamKids” reunion in 2003, where he was greeted by many of his former students. He was able to attend all four of the “DamKids" reunions, including the one in 2010, where many of his former students were able to greet him one more time. After moving to Idaho Falls, he taught school at Clare E. Gale Jr. High. He met his wife, Sharon Ashbaker, and they were married in 1970. After they both retired from teaching in 1987, they moved to Sun City West, Arizona where he enjoyed golfing, hiking, and traveling. He survived by his wife, Sharon of Sun City West, AZ; Daughter, Deborah Baker of Chiang Mai, Thailand; Granddaughter, Christian Clark of Mosier, OR; Step-daughter, NiCole Singleton, of Tacoma, WA; Step-son, Cortney Anderson, Herferd, AZ; Ted was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Teddie, sisters, Fern Young, Mabel Flaherty, Leatha Yeaman, Wilma Shurtleff, and a brother, Chester Baker.
