Susie Jo Nelson Houx, 62, of Idaho Falls, died peacefully of cancer, November 1, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was under the care of her family and OneSource Hospice.
Susie was born November 22, 1951, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Russell E. Nelson and Bette J. Arneson Nelson. She grew up in Seattle, Washington, Lewiston, Idaho, and Idaho Falls, and graduated from Skyline High School in 1970.
On June 18, 1971, she married Larry B. Houx in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Susie and Larry made their home in Idaho Falls. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a talented seamstress.
Susie was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, camping, and outdoor activities.
Susie is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Larry Houx of Idaho Falls, ID;
son, Joshua R. Houx of Idaho Falls, ID,
daughter, Keri J. (Scott) Hawker of Boise, ID.
Four grandchildren, Kaige Hawker, Kolsen Hawker, Bettie Houx, and Amber Houx.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Joanne Nelson, a brother, Robert “Troller” Nelson, and her grandparents, Oscar & Petra Arneson and Earl & Edith Nelson.
As per Susie’s request, no formal services will be held. A Gathering of Friends and a Celebration of Susie’s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the residence of Bill Houx and Ginger Rounds, 13973 North 35th East, Idaho Falls. We will be celebrating with a few of her favorite pastimes: good friends, family, a great campfire, and a cold beer. Cremation, with the spreading of her ashes (along with her dog, Cisco), will be held next summer in Kilgore, Idaho – “her heaven.”
