Susan Onnen, 77, passed away May 27, 2025. She was born July 10, 1947 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the daughter of Joseph and Delberta (Crowley) Hatch.
Susie was a joy. She found joy in telling stories, funny sayings, and singing sweet songs to make others smile. She had an uncanny ability to remember people's birthdays and anniversaries.
Susie was a very talented crafter! She could crochet beautiful hats, shrugs, and even tiny dolls. She loved to make decorations for holidays, activities for kids, and gifts for loved ones. Her ability to draw was simply amazing; she could duplicate characters from any cartoon, sketch portraits with remarkable detail and accuracy, and also made fun art that would bring a chuckle.
Susie loved her family, especially her grandbabies. She would take every opportunity to snuggle and play with her little ones, and always made sure to tell them how much she loved them.
Susie was full of excitement and enthusiasm. She loved to learn new tidbits and share them with people around her. She had a laugh that was contagious, and a smile that brightened a room.
Susie had great faith. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as much as she was able. She served with all ages, from the youngest children in nursery to the youth with lesson and activities, and to adults as well. She would sing songs to her family as they grew up, teaching them songs of praise and joy. She read books, attended classes, and took every opportunity to learn more about her Savior.
Susie was, and still is, greatly loved. She had a way of making people feel happy. She somehow always new when somebody needed a hug. She would reach out and squeeze a hand with all the love she could muster. She gave hugs over the phone when she wasn't close enough to give one in person. More than once, she would stop on the side of the road to give aid to somebody walking, and would have them telling her all about themselves by the end of their ride, feeling special that somebody cared.
Susie will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love and joy will live on with all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
