Dr. Steven H. Walker passed away peacefully January 30, 2023, in the memory care facility at Lincoln Court in Idaho Falls.
Steve was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 27, 1938. He graduated from Olympus High School and went on to the University of Utah. After completing one year, he was called to serve a mission in Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he returned from his mission, he pursued his education at the University of Utah, and then later transferred his credits to Brigham Young University where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree.
This was the beginning of his life-long quest for achievement. Steve was not only motivated, but also committed to making the most of whatever came his way. He joined the National Guard and when the Guard was called up in 1959, he served, which was his duty, but he also decided to go to Officer’s Candidate School (OCS), again to achieve whatever he could.
He graduated from OCS and eventually became a navigator, flying missions over Vietnam. He continued his career with the Air Guard while completing his education at BYU, Idaho State, and finally achieving and receiving his Doctorate in Psychology at The University of Wyoming in Laramie. Steve then moved from Laramie with his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and there he would establish his practice with four other clinical psychologists. He concurrently maintained his military status and some years later, he retired as a Major. He remained in his practice for the next 20 years, and then moved on to other successful entrepreneurial pursuits.
Steve will be remembered and loved for his intellect, his charm, his smile, and his indefatigable wit. Hearing his stories and seeing his reactions to situations rocked people with laughter. Even in the last years, when his mind was failing, his humor never left him.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother and father, Hy and Anne Neff Walker; his sisters, Lila, Anita, and Lorene; his beloved daughter, Deidra Walker (Martin); and his wife, Kathryn Holdstedt Walker.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Walker; daughter Joni Walker (Foley); grandchildren, Michael and Cody Martin; sister, Camille Walker (Greenfield-Warren); and numerous nieces and nephews.
We love you, Steven H. Walker.
“Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
