Steven James Smith, 45, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 15, 2015, at a family member’s home in Idaho Falls of natural causes.
Steve was born December 8, 1969, in Bellingham, Washington, to Joseph Charles Smith and Dolores Alyce Fritz. He grew up and attended schools in Lakewood, Washington, and graduated from Encina High School. He also attended Pierce College, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in business.
He was a decorated veteran who served with the United States Army in Desert Storm.
Steve made his home in Lakewood, Washington, where he worked with active service soldiers for the Veteran’s Administration. He has lived in Shelley, Idaho, for the past five years.
He was a member of the Catholic church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed watching the Seattle Seahawks, helping veterans, collecting guns, and shooting.
Steve is survived by
son, Jacob Ryan Ward of Rexburg, ID;
daughter, Vanessa Hamlett with the U.S. Navy;
daughter, Ashley (Lucas Romero) Ward of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Victoria Spratt of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Tiffany Hamlett of Sacramento, CA;
brother, John Smith of Bellingham, WA;
sister, Michelle (Francisco) Portillo of Alabama;
sister, April Tinsley Bellingham, WA;
son-in-law, Lloyd and Janice Pereira of Idaho Falls, ID;
ex-fiancee, Dawn Ward of Watonga, TX
former girlfriend, Kathy Hage of Sacramento, CA
one grandchild, Lakai Romero; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and two brothers, Lonnie and Joseph Smith.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
