Steven J. Platts, 78 of Rexburg, Idaho passed away peacefully on May 24, 2021 after a long battle of cancer combined with dementia, with his family by his side. Steve was born to Bill and Fern Platts in Rupert, Idaho on May 5, 1943. He was the oldest of three children. Steve graduated from Minico High School in 1961, graduated from BYU with his Bachelor’s degree, and received his Masters’ degree at ISU.
Steve was hired by the Idaho Department of Labor and retired after 34 years. Steve married Ada Dean Nielsen in February, 1961. They had three children, Bonnie, Glade and Phil.; they later divorced. Steve married Phyllis F. Ordaz on June 16, 1973. He gained 3 year old daughter, Brandine. Their daughter, Sunni K was born in 1974. Steve and Phyllis moved from Kimberly, Idaho to Rexburg in 1984.
Their family expanded as they foster parented several teens. Steve was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting, fishing, trail bike riding and horse back trips. Steve could repair most anything. He had a true love for his chosen brothers Leon Moffat and Leon’s boys, Rod Wade, and Jim Stevens.
Steve is survived by his wife, Phyllis, Sister, Shari Klauser of Oregon; Daughter: Bonnie (Jon) Angle, San Pedro, CA; Grandsons, Spencer and Cody Angle Son: Glade (Lisa) Platts of Fairfield, ID; Granddaughter, Megan Platts Son: Phil (Jill) Platts of Newdale, ID; Grandchildren, Shane and Jacob Guymon, Tyler Platts and Liz (Milton) Beasley Daughter: Brandine Platts Ordaz of Huntington Beach, CA; Daughter: Sunni K. (Clint) Miller of Rexburg, Grandchildren, Paige (Braydon) Wilson and Iris K Miller (Corbin Cox)
Steve has 11 beautiful great grandchildren.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents who raised him, Chance and Veda Platts. His first wife and always friend, Ada Bell. Grandchildren Arianna Platts and Jake Martin, and daughter in law, Machelle Platts.
There will be a celebration of Steve’s life for family and friends on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Clint and Sunni Miller residence, 352 N. 6000 West, in Rexburg, Idaho. Refreshments will be served.
