Steve Westergard

Steven James Westergard, 68, of Idaho Falls, passed away at home on June, 27, 2018, with his loving family by his side, after a hard battle with cancer. Steve was born October 24, 1949, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to James C. Westergard Jr. and Ruth Collett. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls, graduating from Skyline High School in 1968. Steve graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Boise State University, a true Boise State fan. Steve met Judy Ann Sautter their senior year of high school in Seminary. They were married on June 6, 1970, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with five beautiful children, Ryan, Angie, Kymm, Shaun and Colette. They opened their home and heart to Ty Harris, who became a son to them. They made their home in Idaho Falls where Steve was an entrepreneur in many trades. He ultimately built a successful business with Mr. Carpet/Carpet One. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Steve served as a ward clerk for 25 years, nursery teacher for four years, and served at BYU-I for four years. Steve was also a faithful home teacher. Steve would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He was an extremely compassionate man that would lend a helping hand to anyone who was experiencing a trial in their life. His first love was always his family. He made a dream come true by providing a beautiful cabin on the water where the family could gather and make lasting memories. Steve and Judy loved to travel and see the world together. If anyone loved projects, it was Steve, he thought he could fix anything with duct tape. He also had a soft heart for dogs. Over the years, each would anxiously await for him to come home from work, cuddle on his lap, and watch TV. In his final moments, he called each of his children by name and told them he loved them. He knew there was a place for him on the other side and that we would all unite as one. Steve is survived by his wife Judy, sons, Ryan (Shelby) Westergard, Shaun (Becky) Westergard, Ty Harris; daughters, Angie (Scott) Boling, Kymm (Milo) Shaw, Colette (Curtis) Jaussi; Sister, Sharon Watkins. He had 21 wonderful grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Westergard Jr., mother, Ruth Collett, and father-in-law, Thomas W. Sautter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Ammon LDS 5th Ward, 2055 S. Ammon Road, with Bishop Paul Lords officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church.
