Steve Westley Russell, age 72, of Iona, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2025, at 11:05 a.m. He was born on January 21, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ivol and Joyce Russell, who both preceded him in death.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, carrying with him the discipline and commitment that shaped the way he lived the rest of his life.
He could always be found in his shop; either under the hood of a car, he couldn’t resist tinkering with or building something amazing out of wood. Whether it was fixing what was broken or creating something new, Steve’s hands were steady and skilled, and his projects always carried his signature care.
More than anything, Steve was devoted to his family. He lived by the words he often repeated: “family always comes first.” His wife, children, grandchildren, and close friends knew they could always count on him. He was the steady presence at the center of every gathering, the one who made sure everyone was cared for.
Steve is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children, Trista, Monique, Matthew, Westley, and Lillian; and his sisters, Dorthy and Brenna.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie; his brother, Ferrell; and nephew, Spencer. He also leaves behind far too many grandchildren and close friends to mention here, each one, he loved deeply.
A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Iona Cemetery.
