Biography

Steve L. Jenkins 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 1, 2011 peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was under the compassionate care of Hands of Hope Hospice. Steve was born March 1, 1940 in Ucon, Idaho to William H. Jenkins and Athene Lott Jenkins. He grew up and attended schools in the area. Steve built “Steve’s Repair” on Woodruff Avenue in 1973 and established a reputation of bringing quality mechanic work and honesty together. He married Sharee Sargent in 1958 in Idaho Falls. From this union he was blessed with Kathy, Karen and Karla. He married Kendra Mortensen in 1966 in Ucon. From this union he was blessed with Keenan and Shawnee. He married Maxine Huskinson in 1980 in Shelley. From this union he was blessed with Connee, Richard, Bill and Mike. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Steve enjoyed life with his family and took great joy hunting elk, shotgunning, his hunting dogs and traveling to Alaska to hunt with his sons. His adventures included whitewater rafting on Idaho’s rivers and shooting chuckers in Hell’s Canyon. Snow machining in Island Park from the cabin was a winter passion, as was trout fishing in the summer. Steve was past president of the Snake River Boat Club and enjoyed several boats, including a white water raft named “Big Bertha”. Motorcycles and a love of power in his vehicles was a trademark of his personality. Survivors include: Wife: Maxine Jenkins of Idaho Falls, Idaho Daughter: Kathy Pierce of St. George, Utah Daughter: Karen (Randy) Frei of Santa Clara, Utah Daughter: Karla (Mark) Gladstone of Idaho Falls, Idaho Son: Keenan (Carly) Jenkins of Valdez, Alaska Daughter: Shawnee (Lew) Grant of Idaho Falls, Idaho Daughter: Connee White (Rick Anderson) Son: Richard (Jenni)Whitehead Son: Mike Whitehead Brother: Dean L. (MariAnn)Jenkins of California 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his grandmother and grandfather Jenkins; his parents; grandchild, Steven Thomas Reiner; siblings, Kent Jenkins, Teena Jenkins, Jerry Jenkins; and his son, Bill Whitehead. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd., with Alan Jenkins officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ucon Cemetery.
