Harold Stephen "Steve" Burns, 68, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 18, 2016, surrounded by his family. The only son of Henry Campbell Burns and Effie Lee Potter Burns, he was born November 5, 1947, in Fairfield, Iowa. He grew up in Japan, North Carolina, and Arizona. He graduated from Goldsboro High School in North Carolina and attended Ricks College before graduating from Arizona State University. Steve married Sharon Jorgensen for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple May 20, 1983. He is the proud father of daughter, Erin Suzanne of Salt Lake City, Utah; son, Samuel Isaac of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and son, Jacob Sean of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was thrilled with Jacob's wife, Jane, when she joined the family. He worked in industrial safety for over thirty years and recently started driving school buses for District 91, where he enjoyed driving elementary and high school students the most. He was an active participant in the Boy Scouts of America and proud Eagle Scout. He held numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Family was very important to Steve. He dearly loved his wife, and considered his proudest accomplishments his children. He put many hours into researching his family history. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He loved his dogs, especially the red ones. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter; two sons; daughter-in-law; sister, Connie Burns of Durham, NC; niece, Jennifer (Vince) Cooper of Sanford, NC; mother-in-law, Arley Jorgensen; brothers-in-law, Steve (Cathy) Jorgensen, Dan (Brenda) Jorgensen; nephews, Chris (Alicia), Hans, Jeremie, Jonathan, and Andrew Jorgensen; 11 grandnieces and grandnephews; many cousins and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the Mill Run LDS Ward (2020 S. Charlotte). The family will visit with friends Saturday from 11-11:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
The family would like to express thanks for the care Steve received during his stay at EIRMC, especially for the efforts of the doctors and nurses in ICU.
