Sterrell Euel Douglass, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 20, 2011, due to complications of leukemia. Sterrell was born October 30, 1918, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Anthony Francis Douglass and Irmadean Southwick Douglass. He grew up as “Doug” to all who knew him. Growing up, Doug had a very close friendship with his brother, Keith, and they enjoyed walking across the street from home to Idaho Falls High School, which was in the building which later became Central Junior High until it burned down in the 1970's. Doug proudly served our country in the U. S. Navy during World War II, running evaporators on the ship, which made fresh drinking water from salt water. He was a first-hand witness to the devastation at Hiroshima. He also served in the shipyard in Bremerton, Washington, as a machinist. After the war, Doug returned home and worked with his father at Douglass Machine and Bearing Company. Later in life he owned and operated Superior Auto Repair in Idaho Falls. Doug married Bonnie Rachel Middleton in Rexburg, Idaho, on September 16, 1951. They had three daughters. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Bonnie passed away July 27, 1991. Doug was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mason and a Shriner. He enjoyed checking the stock market and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Daughter, Pam (Geoff) Shupe of Murray, UT; Daughter, Stacey (Mike) Dickson of Gig Harbor, WA; 13 Grandchildren and 5 great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie, a daughter, Cheryl Dene (Gary) Stucki, and a brother, Keith Douglass. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. Doug’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the professionals at Life Care Center, as well as TJ, Hillary, Ruth, Gerie, and Marge, for their wonderful care of Dad.
