Stephen Carpenter

Stephen Austin Carpenter, 67, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Stephen was born October 22, 1948, in Plattsburgh, New York, to Wilbur Austin Carpenter and Margaret Ann Van Strander Carpenter. He grew up in New York and graduated from Cornell University, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry. Stephen served his country as a reconnaissance team leader with the 5th Special Forces Group, Attachment B-52, Project Delta, of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He is the Author of Boots on the Ground . On September 5, 1970, he married Paula Deborah Miller Carpenter in Whitehall, New York. He leaves a son, Stephen and daughter, Debra. Stephen and Paula made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Stephen was a Vice President in Environmental Remediation. Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Paula Carpenter of Ammon, ID; mother, Margaret Ann Carpenter of Rainbow Lake, NY; son, Stephen Carpenter of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Debra (David) Burke of Belchertown, MA; brother, Wilbur (Mary Ann) Carpenter of Perkasie, PA; sister, Mary (David) Henry of Terra Ceia, FL; sister, Leslie (John) Kolodziey of Rainbow Lake, NY; and three grandchildren, Madison Carpenter, Jessica Burke, and Liam Burke. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Austin Carpenter, two brothers, Craig Carpenter and Derick Carpenter, and a sister, Amy Carpenter. Private family services will be held at a later date.
