Stella Winter

Stella Louise Winter, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away on June 10, 2014, at The Gable in Ammon. She was born June 4, 1928, in Challis, Idaho to Gurney R. James and Katherine Mae Mavity James. She grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Challis High School. On August 3, 1946, she married William Norman Winter in Dillon, Montana. He preceded her in death in October of 1974. She married Blaine Garn on April 13, 1975, and their marriage was later dissolved. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She worked as a Clerk at Ada’s Fashion, as a Loan Officer and Manager at Avco Finance, and in Financial Services for MPCU. She was a member of the DOES (Elks). Stella was a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting porcelain dolls, cooking, planting flowers (real and not-so-real), and decorating her home and yard. She especially loved her family, spending time with them, and having tea parties with the great grandchildren. Survivors are: Daughter: Catherine (Bob) Emery, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Norman Kip (Macy) Winter, Blackfoot, ID Brother: Bill (June) James, Challis, ID Brother: Jim (Sandy) James, Challis, ID Sister: Lorraine (Wendell) Olsen, Logan, Utah Sister: Janet (Dean) Argyle, Challis, Idaho 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a son, Richard “Rickie” Winter; two brothers, Richard James and Harry Thomas James; two sisters, Tiny Williams and Carol Bush; and one great grandson, Devin Jones-Emery. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Jones & Casey Funeral Home, 531 Hwy 93 S, in Challis, Idaho. The family will visit with friends on Friday for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. A Mass in memory of Stella will be held on Sunday, June 15th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louise Catholic Church, 1285 Pleasant Avenue, Challis, Idaho. Burial will be in the Challis Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Encompass Home Health and Hospice, 3686 Washington Parkway, Idaho Falls, ID 83404 or a charity of your choice.
