STANLEY R. NEWMAN
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Stanley Ray Newman was born March
5, 1923, at Milo, Idaho, to Franklin Hughes Newman and Ethel Amelda Crowley.
He was the fifth child born to them. He attended Milo and Iona grade schools
and Idaho Falls High School where he graduated in 1940. His brothers and
sisters were Marjorie Corey, Alden Newman, Robert (Bob) Newman, Eldred
Newman and Delsa Jean Newman (all deceased as are his parents.)
He has five children by a previous marriage. Trudy Giampaolo
of Newburgh, New York; Susan Kemer of Middletown, Delaware; Karen Smith
of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Dan Newman of Mentor, Ohio; and Phillip Newman
of Orem, Utah (all living).
Stanley met and married Madelyn Wycherly of Salt Lake
City in the Salt Lake Temple on January 10, 1991. They were later sealed
in the Washington, D.C. Temple. She has three children; Heidi LaBar of
Las Vegas, Nevada; Heather Waite of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Aimee Kener
of Salt Lake City, Utah. Stan and Madelyn together have 22 grandchildren
(1 deceased).
Upon graduation from high school, Stanley attended the
University of Utah where he received a B.S. and PhD in chemistry. During
this period he also served in World War II in the U. S. Army Signal Corps.
He also attended Texas A & M where he completed the sixth term in
advanced Electrical Engineering.
Upon graduation from the University of Utah he accepted
a job in Beacon, New York at the Texaco Research Center as a Chemist where
he progressed through various positions and was a Senior Technologist
at retirement thirty-one years later. At retirement he had 33 U. S. Patents
and had worldwide responsibility for fuels for Texaco.
He was a member of the American Chemical Society, the
American Ssociation for the Advancement of Science, the New York Fruit
Testing Association, President of the Dutchess County (New York) Genealogical
Society for six years, member of the Karl G. Maeser Scholastic Society,
member of the Dutchess County (New York) Solid Waste Management Board,
Chairman of the Fishkill (New York) Planning Board, and member of the
Fishkill Village Board.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints and served in many callings, most recently as a temple worker in
the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January
8, 2005, at the Idaho Falls LDS Woodhaven Ward (260 Castlerock), with
Bishop Baird McNaught officiating.
The family will visit with friends on Friday from 7-8:30
p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and for one hour prior to the
services at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction
of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville
County Veterans Team.
