Spencer Dean Covert, 78, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 23, 2014, at his home. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Spencer was born April 8, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Spencer Covert Jr. and Ida Nelson Covert.
He lived in Ammon and went to Ammon Elementary. He graduated from Bonneville High School. He went to Utah State and Idaho State Universities.
He was a machinist and welder working at Leonard’s Metal Works in Rigby and at First Street Welding in Idaho Falls. He was good at working with his hands and very careful measuring. He would try doing anything. He did custodial work at Hillcrest High School in his later years. He enjoyed tutoring students at Hillcrest who needed help with their reading. He was nominated for “Eight Who Make a Difference” for his work.
He married Ellen Bodily August, 25, 1955, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have four children, Brian (Tammy) Covert of Lewisville, ID; Carrie (Mike) Smith of Idaho Falls; Jeff Covert of Idaho Falls; and Wade (Annette) Covert of Provo, UT; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patsy Grover, brothers John Covert and Terry Covert, and parents-in-law Verl and Lola Bodily.
At his request there will be no funeral. He will be buried in the Iona Cemetery. The family requests that there be no flowers. Instead, please donate to the Hillcrest High School English Department.
